Having missed the international games I have spent the majority of my football day keeping in touch with that, but as most of the world saw it, I have had to dig deeper into footballfilter for my top 5 links today…..
1. Is Stewart Downing shit? Join in the discussion on the FourFourTwo forum
2. Check out the Ten Richest Men article at The Offside
3. I am surprised to See Juventus are to move to a new stadium which is only going to be 40,000, while there existing one is only about a 25,000 capacity - anybody else expect a bit bigger for such a well known club?
4. What with Theo out for a fair while Nacer Barazite will come back from his loan spell at Derby and perhaps take over his role for a while according to the Arsenal Young Guns Blog - never heard of him myself and my mate (and co runner of FootballFilter) is a Derby fan….
5. The two old Chelsea bosses battle it out this weekend in the Juve v Inter game - Mourinho has been winding Claudio up a treat since he came to the Serie A - Should be interesting…..
Also in case you didn’t know - Newcastle page is up!
The great “newspaper” (please note sarcasm) that is the Mirror posted a vid on Jose “losing his rag” today. He really doesnt lose his rag at all but it’s still enjoyable to watch even if he can’t understand a word of Italian. Also it seems the Italians aren’t putting up with his lovable ways. How I miss him…..
1. Jose Mourinho blows his top on Italian TV: 3pm video
2. Have a look at this blog from the Guardian, apparently they are trying to field a team entirely made of retired England internationals for next seasons FA Cup, I think it would be absolutley hilarious, please make this happen!
Is the FA Cup ready for a team made up solely of retired England internationals?
3. I don’t know whats more sad, the guy who painted this hellish thing or the twat Bishop who felt the need to speak out about it:
Painting showing George Best as Jesus condemned by Bishop
4. Everyone has been talking about it (well the news has anyway), the great 101greatgoals.com has got it online (1 mins 5 seconds in)
Didier Drogba throws a coin at the Burnley fans
5. Antonion Cassano is a mentalist, and i love him. He’s releasing a book which could be one of the more interesting reads out there, up with “My Goal”, “Totally Frank”, “Gerrard: My Autobiography” and “Michael Owen: Off the record” - god why are England players such fucking over paid dullards ? Jokes aside, Cassano’s book does look really good, he slags loads of people off and talks about how many girls he’s shagged.
Cassano’s book: “Sex and food, a perfect night”
I know I said I wouldn’t be doing this every day but having just watched the Arsenal goals from last night I felt compelled to post that link and thought I may as well add another 4 to it.
1. I hate the ridiculous amount of sucking off that Wenger gets for breeding kids who then whip average teams in the average, not particularly prized Carling Cup, it happens all the time and when it comes to the premiership I haven’t seen them really cut it to be honest, but biased dislike aside the goals are good and every one loves young players coming through don’t they? I saw a great comment by someone while waching these vids which went along the lines of “play the kids against the lower half teams of the table in Premiership and the senior team against the top half” - I think this person might be a managerial genius. Word of warning MightyFootball.com is liable to give you trojans and spy ware, so watch out:
Arsenal v Wigan - highlights
2. We feed peoples’ flickr shots on our site, our top row is our favourite photos of the moment and I have to say a flickr member who goes by the name of “toksuede” has probably taken the best collection of football photos I have seen on flickr and he deserves a shout out for it this Carlos Tevez one a particularly cool one, check out the rest of them while you are there.
Carlos Tevez - taken by Toksuede
3. It’s just a rumour but I think its the biggest one around - Xavi off to Man United. The guy is the absolute schiznit so I would be gutted if he went to United!
FERGIE IS TARGETING X-TRA HELP
4. A favourite site of mine (The Offside) and a lot of truth to be said here - Arsenal’s youth squad should play in the championship, bit like Barca B and Real Madrid B - would be good I feel, especially if they keep up the amount of English players:
Arsenal Belong In The Championship
5. The Shocking tackles thread found on the great WSC forum - give it a read if you need reminding of the dirt so far this season:
Shocking tackles thread
To say this blog has stagnated would be a kind way of putting it, I am a busy man, sure, what can i say. However having been reminded of a great idea by the lovely people at The Offside I thought it was high time to get back on it, starting with a regular “Top Links” piece. To say I am going to do this every day, or every week would be a lie! But a certain regularity will be achieved I tell thee! Anyway here they are:
1. Lets start off with some incredibly tenuously classified WAG joy for you from The Spoiler (I say that cause most of the time they feature American Footballer’s wives and girl friends and therefore don’t align with original British idea of a WAG, but still who cares eh?) -
The Spoiler’s WAG 217 - Rachel Reynolds
2. Another hyped up teenager “will he make it won’t he?” called Alipio has gone to Real Madrid beating Chelsea to it, found on the Telegraph, but whats more interesting is a video to the right of the report hosted by Omni Sport who basically provide football highlights for websites….check out Wagner Love scoring 4 goals:
Real Madrid pip Chelsea to sign Portuguese teenage striker Alipio
3. Check out the highlights from Lecce v Milan from the brilliant MightyFootball.com - BUT BEWARE, got an email the other day from a chap who went to this site and then proceeded to spend a day getting rid of a virus - never had a problem myself but watch out!
Lecce 1 - 1 Milan
4. Anybody hate Alan Shearer as much as I do? Either way apparently he’s back on for the Newcastle job, god help them….
SHEARER BETS FRENZY
5. And finally a nice interesting one for you, Setanta online have done an article on Fabio Cannavaro’s brother Paolo who plays for Napoli - it’s a relatively interesting read and if you like stats you’ll be able to waste a few mins on this:
The rise of Paolo Cannavaro
